About us

Built by an operator. For operators.

13+ years of digital marketing experience in Houston. Mastodon is a Pearland-headquartered AI implementation and digital marketing agency for SMBs across Greater Houston and Texas. We build AI-assisted systems that move pipeline, recover hours, and stop the busywork from eating your team.

TL;DR

What Mastodon Marketing actually is.

Mastodon Marketing is an AI implementation + digital marketing agency for SMBs. We were founded in 2022 by Alex Rocha, a Houston-born operator with 13+ years running paid acquisition, SEO, content, and CRM stacks for SMBs and mid-market clients (including a 10-year run as CMO of The Credit Agents where Alex managed $100K/month in ad budget and generated $5.7M in attributable LTV at 5X ROAS).

The thing we are not: a strategy consulting firm, an enterprise systems integrator, a freelance AI generalist, or a content mill. The thing we are: a small operator-led agency that ships working AI systems in 14-90 days, wires them into your existing CRM + ads + content + customer-facing channels, trains your team to use them, and measures the work in dollars and hours instead of vanity metrics. We serve home services, healthcare, professional services, real estate, B2B, and SMBs that don't fit a neat vertical bucket. We work across Greater Houston on-site and Texas-wide remote.

Founder's note

Why Mastodon exists.

I'm Alex Rocha. I've spent my career watching business owners get sold one expensive "marketing package" after another, watching reports come back green while their pipelines stayed flat. Most agencies are built to win the pitch. Very few are built to win the quarter.

Mastodon started because the tools finally caught up. The same AI that big companies use to automate thousands of customer touchpoints per day is now available to any operator who wants it. The difference is implementation. Most people buy the tools. We build the systems.

And we built Mastodon the other way from most agencies. We don't sell you on AI replacing your team. We use AI to take the busywork off their plate so they can spend their time on what your customers actually pay for: the relationships, the judgment, the trust.

What we do

The four pillars.

Most SMBs come to Mastodon with one bottleneck (after-hours phone coverage, inconsistent lead follow-up, no SEO authority, paid ads that don't pay back, scheduling friction). We pick the loudest pain, build the system, prove ROI in 60-90 days, then expand. The work organizes into four pillars:

  • AI for Marketing: SEO + AI-search optimization, paid ads creative iteration, content production at speed, social media drafting
  • AI for Sales: account research, outbound personalization, lead qualification bots, proposal drafting, sales enablement
  • AI for Customer Service: AI receptionists, voice agents, chatbots, missed-call text-back, review response automation
  • AI for Operations: workflow automation, internal Q&A on company docs, dashboards, SOP capture

The full playbooks library lists every single deployment pattern we ship, with pricing and timelines. Our guides cover what AI implementation actually is, how to do it in an SMB, and what it costs in 2026.

Who we serve

The clients we do our best work for.

SMBs and lower-mid-market businesses, typically 5-50 employees, $500K-$15M ARR. We have deeper experience in a handful of verticals where our playbooks compound:

  • Home services: HVAC, roofing, plumbing, restoration, construction, cleaning. The phone-driven, after-hours-revenue-leak crowd. AI receptionist + missed-call text-back + GBP review automation usually pay first.
  • Healthcare practices: dental, medical, PT, behavioral health, med spas. HIPAA-aware deployment. AI scheduling + multi-touch reminders typically recover $40K-$80K/year for a mid-sized clinic.
  • Professional services: law firms, accounting practices, consulting, agencies. Confidentiality-aware AI for intake, proposals, internal Q&A.
  • Real estate: buyer/seller lead screening, showing automation, listing inquiry response within seconds.
  • B2B operators: SaaS, services, manufacturers, distributors. Account research, outbound personalization, renewal-risk scoring.

We also work with operators outside those verticals when the bottleneck is one we know how to solve. The FAQ has more on what we will and won't take on.

Where we work

Greater Houston on-site, Texas-wide remote.

Mastodon is headquartered in Pearland, 20 minutes south of downtown Houston. On-site discovery is standard for any Greater Houston client. For the rest of Texas (Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio) we run remote-first engagements with quarterly on-site travel for kickoffs and major reviews. Select out-of-state engagements when the fit is right.

What we believe

Four principles that guide every engagement.

01

Pipeline over impressions.

If it doesn't move your business, we don't count it. Every report we send points at revenue, attributable leads, or recovered hours. Not impressions, sessions, or follower counts.

02

Systems over campaigns.

Campaigns end when the budget does. Systems compound. We build infrastructure that keeps paying dividends after the retainer ends. AI receptionist deployed in 2024 still recovers calls in 2026.

03

AI that amplifies, not replaces.

We've never recommended a staff cut as part of an engagement. We've been asked to. We'd rather hand your team their hours back so they spend them on the work your customers actually pay for: judgment, relationships, trust.

04

Honest fit, every time.

If we're not the right partner, we'll say so on the first call and point you somewhere that is. We've recommended competitors more than once. That's part of how we keep the 5.0 average across 12 reviews.

How we work

The engagement, week by week.

Every Mastodon engagement runs through the same 6-phase process. We don't customize the process per client. We customize the work product. The process exists to make sure every client gets the same hygiene: discovery, scoped build, pilot, rollout, optimization, hand-off documentation.

  • Week 1: 90-minute discovery (on-site for Greater Houston, video for the rest of Texas). Voice samples captured. Constraints mapped (HIPAA, conflicts, compliance).
  • Week 2: Architecture + voice training. Vendor riders signed if regulated. Knowledge base loaded. Integration plan locked.
  • Weeks 3-5: Build. Conversation flows, CRM wiring, voice tuning, internal team training. One-page spec, not a deck.
  • Week 6: 30-percent pilot. Owner approves every output during pilot to calibrate voice and tone.
  • Weeks 7-8: Full rollout. 100 percent of inbound (or 100 percent of proposal volume, or 100 percent of the relevant workflow) flows through the AI.
  • Weeks 9-12: Optimization. Weekly tuning calls. False-confidence and missed-escalation logging.
  • Month 4+: Ongoing monthly tuning at $200-$3,500/mo depending on scope. Optional expansion to next playbook.

The full week-by-week breakdown lives on our process page. Honest 2026 pricing across single playbooks, single pillars, and full multi-pillar implementations is on our pricing page.

Reviews + ratings

5.0 stars across 12 verified Google reviews.

100 percent response rate. Median response time under 30 minutes. Every review is published unedited on our reviews page and verifiable on our Google Business Profile.

Real names from real clients including Nelson Cano, Katie Balderas, Kevin Romero, Priscilla Clayton, Joe Chavarria, Lucy Woramalee, Jason Lee Villarreal, Nathan Gerk (Pro-Fresh Houston), and others across the home services, real estate, professional services, and credit repair industries.

Operating philosophy

The thing we say on every intro call.

We do not sell fluff and vanity metrics. We sell results you can recognize.

That sounds like a slogan. It is also literally how the firm operates. If a client cannot measure the outcome we shipped in dollars, hours, or attributable leads inside 90 days, we did not do the job. Strategy decks are not a deliverable. Working systems are.

The corollary: we tell prospects no a lot. If AI is not the right answer for their bottleneck, we say so. If they need a CRM cleanup before they need automation, we say that. If their problem is org structure or hiring, we say that too and recommend the right partner. We've sent more than a few prospects to competitors when the fit was wrong. That's the only way to be honest with the work.
